What Type of Products Should you Use on your Hair?

A good hair product for men can be hard to find. Not only are there a plethora of brands, but also different ingredients to consider. Some products even have chemicals that can damage your hair. It would help if you didn't have to worry about that when looking for a great hairstyle.

To help you get the best hairstyles, we'll cover what to look for in men's products and which ones to avoid.

The key is to focus on the ingredients, not just the product type or brand name. For example, while many products use natural oils in their formulas, they often include other chemicals that can hurt your hair over time.

Different Types Of Hair Products For Men

There are many different hair products on the market today, and some are designed to style curly or straight hair, while others work well with any hair. The most popular varieties include Pomade, gels, mousses, serums and sprays. We'll discuss below:

Men's Hair Product: Pomade

Pomade is a greasy substance used for making hair look slick and shiny. It also helps to keep your hair in place, which makes it perfect for taming unruly or wild styles. Pomades come in two different types. The first is a wax-based pomade, which will provide you with a stronghold and a shiny finish. The second type of Pomade is water-based, which is easier to apply, wash out and restyle.

Type of hair to use:

Short, medium, long and curly

Ingredients use:

Water, beeswax, petroleum jelly or mineral oil

How to apply:

Scoop out a fingernail size amount of Pomade with your thumb. Rub it between your palms to warm it up, spreading easier. Work the Pomade into towel-dried hair from front to back. Distribute evenly throughout the hair by running fingers from the roots to the ends. If you want more of a greaser look, you run fingers through the front while pulling up on the sides and back. Suppose you want a more classic look. Comb through neatly with a comb or brush.

Hairstyle:

The pompadour, quiff, slicked back, comb-over.

Men's Hair Product: Clay

The clay is the new revolutionary hair styling product. It is a lightweight, water-soluble and moldable texture that allows you to change your hairstyle as per your whim. In addition, it gives you a matte finish with no shine and can be used for any hairstyle.

Type of hair to use:

Clay is suitable for all types of hair. There are different clays for straight, curly or wavy hair to choose the best one for your hair type.

Ingredients use:

The best clays contain beeswax and wax, which give you a solid hold on your hair without weighing it down. They also have bentonite clay which compresses the cuticles and makes them easier to style. The key ingredient in most clays is bentonite derived from volcanic ash. Bentonite, wax and beeswax keep your hair in place but still allow it to be moulded into any shape or style.

How to apply:

To apply, rub a small amount of clay between your palms until it feels tacky. Then work it through your dry or damp hair, starting at the roots and working your way down to the tips of your locks. It is that simple!

Hairstyle:

the matte finish holds in place all-day

Men's Hair Product: Gels

Men's hair gels are excellent for men who want a stronghold and a shiny finish. However, if you're looking to keep your hair in place, hair gel is the way to go.

Type of hair to use: Hair gel works best on short and mid-length hairstyles such as a buzz cut or crew cut.

Ingredients use:

Since gels can often leave behind a sticky residue, they shouldn't use them daily. It's also important to wash your hair thoroughly after using this product, as the residue can clog pores and eventually lead to dandruff.

How to apply:

A dime-sized amount should be enough for most men with short or medium-length hair. Try using an immense amount for longer hairstyles like the more significant der cut until you find the perfect balance between hold and shine. It will vary depending on your length, thickness, and style preference.

Hairstyle:

Crew Cut, Faux Hawk

Men's Hair Product: Mousse

Mousse is a foamy hair styling product that provides structure and definition to your hair. It has a light, frothy texture and is easily applied to the hair. Today's mousses are lightweight and contain natural ingredients that improve your hair's condition. In addition, they are so light that you can barely feel them in your hair. They also provide UV protection, which helps keep your hair healthy and strong.

Type of hair to use:

For all hair types, but incredibly thick and curly hair.

Ingredients:

Water, alcohol, and polymer (a chemical compound).

How to use:

Shake the can well before applying it to your hair. Apply an egg-sized amount and work it through your hair by starting at the roots. Use a brush to evenly distribute the mousse throughout your head for maximum volume. You can also apply mousse directly to your towel-dried hair before drying or blow-drying your hair, and it will help prevent frizz. Bonus — if you're planning on getting a little sweaty during a workout or when the weather gets hot, mousse is excellent for helping lock in your style so you won't have to restyle later.

Hairstyles:

A little goes a long way with this product, so don't overdo it. It's great for creating volume without making your hair crunchy and stiff like other products.

Men's Hair Product: Serums

The serum is a lightweight liquid meant to be applied to the hair immediately after washing. The best hair serums for men are used for smoothing and soft fur, improving its appearance, and keeping it in place. In addition, serums can be used as a styling aid and a finishing product (a leave-the conditioner).

Types of hair to use:

All hair types will benefit from serums because they can use them to the style, smooth, and tame frizz.

Ingredients use:

Look for vitamin E and antioxidants like green tea extract in serum products. These ingredients are known to help heal damaged hair follicles and improve the overall health of the scalp.

How to apply:

Put a few drops of serum on your hands and then distribute evenly throughout your hair immediately after washing. Next, massage your scalp, so it absorbs evenly.

Hairstyle:

Workable hairstyles include comb-overs, slick backs, side parts, and pompadours (or any other type of hybrid hairstyles that combine these elements).

Men's Hair Product: Sprays

Sprays add volume to thin hair and create a more textured style. They also provide more grip and hold than most gels and waxes, so they're good at keeping your hair in place.

Type of hair to use:

Hair sprays are best for medium to long hair but can also be used on shorter styles.

Ingredients to Use:

Look for a lower hold factor product if you have fine or thinning hair. Higher hold factors can weigh your hair and make it look even thinner. On the other hand, if you have thick or curly hair, you may need something with a higher hold factor to keep your mane in check.

How to apply:

Shake the bottle thoroughly before use. Spray evenly throughout damp or dry hair, then work it into your mane with your fingers—comb or brush through to create the desired style.

Men's Hair Product: Hair Wax & Putty

Hair wax is perfect if you want a matte finish and a medium to the stronghold. Since we're talking about men's hair products, you should be careful of the shine. A hair wax lets your hair flow naturally but still has the strength to keep your style in place when needed. It's also best if you want a natural texture and volume.

Type of hair to use:

Short to Medium Length Hair

Ingredients use:

Beeswax, Lecithin, Kaolin, Carnauba Wax and Castor Oil

Product Type:

Medium to Strong Hold

How to apply:

Scoop out a small amount of product on your fingers and work it through damp or dry hair for a little extra hold. Use a comb to style as desired. Tip: Don't overdo it! It can get greasy fast, so the less you use it, the better! (Unless you're going for that look)

Hairstyle:

Waxworks are great on most hairstyles, from messy textured looks, side parts or something more polished and neat like a faux hawk or quiff.

Ingredients Of Men's Hair Product

The best hair products for men's hairstyles should make you look good, but they should be good for your hair. Unfortunately, many products on the market are loaded with harsh chemicals that can cause damage to your hair and scalp. Therefore, it's essential to read labels and understand the ingredients in a product before you put it in your hair (or buy it in the first place).

Good ingredients to look for

Ingredients are suitable for your scalp health.

Look for ingredients like tea tree oil, peppermint oil, and lavender oil. These ingredients have been shown to benefit scalp health and help keep your scalp healthy and free from problems like dandruff.

Ingredients that help keep hair looking healthy.

Ingredients like shea butter, avocado oil, and coconut oil are great for keeping hair looking healthy. They help to seal in moisture and keep hair looking shiny and healthy.

Ingredients that help prevent frizz.

Ingredients like argan oil, jojoba oil, and grapeseed oil are great for preventing frizz. They help to tame frizzy hair and keep it looking healthy and smooth, including coconut oil, argan shea butter, and avocado oil.

Hair Products for Men's Hair should avoid ingredients such as

Phthalates:

These chemicals give products a silicone-like feel, but they've been linked to reproductive problems and other health concerns.

Sulphates:

Sodium lauryl sulphate and ammonium lauryl sulphate are harsh detergents found in many shampoos that cause scalp irritation and hair thinning.

Parabens:

These preservatives mimic estrogen and have been linked to breast cancer and other hormone-related cancers.

Ammonia:

Ammonia is found in many hair dyes and other hair styling products and can cause severe itching, burning, and allergic reactions on contact with the scalp.

Silicones:

Most silicones are not harmful, but some can build up on the scalp and cause hair loss. Look for products that list water as the first ingredient to avoid this problem: sulphates, parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances.

Sodium chloride:

Sodium chloride (aka salt) can dry both your skin and hair – especially if you have curly or textured hair. So look for sodium chloride on ingredient labels and stay away from them!

High Alcohol:

Many of the products found in stores have high alcohol content. This ingredient is used as a solvent, which allows the product to remain an aerosol. However, it's also very drying and can cause hair loss due to damage.
